History of Hares Pond Recreational Park Inc.
In 1986 there was a foresty planted with 10,000 trees that consist of White Oak, Burr Oak, Green Ash, Cedar, Walnut, and the Poplar. Then in 1988 Richard Hare (Chairman and Founder of Hares Pond) bought a hi-ho to widen out the stream. In the 90's the first spillway was put in with a culvert under the driveway for the water to flow to the second pond. The fall of 2000 the DNR stocked the ponds with Catfish and Bluegill. The spring of 2001 the DNR finished their project by stocking the ponds with Bass. On the land near the first pond is a 32'X48' pavilion that was built and finished in 2001 by Richard Hare and other residents of the community. The pavilion was built out of the boards from the Old Rowley School dating back to 1875. The picnic tables were made out of rough pine that also came from the Old Rowley School.
Not just a campground!
Hares Pond Recreational Park has been used for other things like Family Reunions, Wedding Receptions and Weddings, High School Graduations Parties, and Meetings or Events. Some families just goes to have a picnic or for fisfing. It's beautiful place just drive back and see for yourself.
